Section 07-047  Substitute Teachers or Non-Certified Supervisors
Substitute teachers shall have certificates registered with the Clerk of the Board.

Non-certified personnel may be employed to supervise pupils in non-instructional activities.  They may direct, control, or manage.  They may be authorized to maintain discipline.  They may be used in virtually any capacity except that of teacher (K.S.A. 72-1106).  Only certified personnel may teach.

In the event of a teacher absence, effort will be made to place a certified person as teacher-substitute in the classroom.  If a certified person is not available, a non-certified person may be placed in the classroom to supervise the pupils but not to teach them.  If a non-certified person is placed in the classroom, any instruction required shall be provided by certified staff in the building or in the district.

If a substitute teaches continuously in one assignment for 10 consecutive days, the pay rate shall be increased to the daily rate of pay for a beginning teacher and shall become effective at the close of the tenth consecutive day of substitute teaching.  Each substitute teacher and non-certified supervisor shall secure a certificate of health signed by a licensed physician, upon entering employment in USD 263.  Additional certification of health shall be required at least once every three years.  The form for such certification shall be obtained from the Superintendent, and the expense of such certification shall be borne by the substitute teacher.
