Section 10-005.
Advertising and Commercialism for Non-School Events
The schools are a public institution,
operated for the general welfare, and must be as free as possible from
exploitation by corporations, private individuals, or special interest groups.
For the protection of the school children of this community, the Board of
Education disapproves the following practices:
A.
The use of the time of teachers
while in the school building by agents and representatives of various business,
commercial or financial institutions. (Teachers
may be interviewed in the school building on school business by representatives
of school supply and publishing houses, but not during time that has been
scheduled for teaching).
B.
The display of posters
advertising lodge, fraternity or sorority or commercial functions.
C.
The writing of essays or
preparation of posters under the direction of the schools for any commercial
enterprise.
D.
The use of students or teachers
during the school day to spread information, or to promote the success of,
various community organizations, unless such organizations are beneficial to the
school and community.
E.
Ticket selling campaigns in the
schools for events which are not school sponsored.
The Board approves the following activities:
1.
Educational motion pictures that
are approved by the Principal.
2.
The posting of announcements and
posters advertising church, civic and school functions.
3.
The operation of book exchanges
at school by the school or parent-teacher organization.
4.
Certain money-raising activities
as approved by the Principal and Superintendent.
