Section 10-055 Threats of Terrorism and Violence
Public Schools are to be free of fear from those who profess to do acts of violence and terrorism. Persons who publicly state that these types of acts are to be forthcoming shall be disciplined appropriately based on current and factual evidence. The context of the situation must be an important part of the decision about the application of discipline. It is the intent of the Board of Education that the discipline applied to these situations will best fit the action of the student(s) involved. The disciplinary action may range from in-school suspension, short term out-of-school suspension, long-term out-of-school suspension or expulsion from school. Counseling may be made a condition for re-admittance. The cost of counseling shall be borne by the family of the student.  All threats are to be taken seriously and those that are found to be more than just idle comments shall be reported to the local police. The School District will work cooperatively with law enforcement in these situations. Parents will be involved at all levels of discipline.

The staff of each school shall have knowledge about the characteristics of the types of student behavior that may have a propensity to commit threats and/or acts of terrorism and violence. This information shall be presented each year to the staff by the school administration and or other qualified personnel. Staff members that believe that certain members of the school or general population have made a threat of terrorism or possible violence should report it to the school administration. The school administration will respond accordingly depending on the results of an investigation.
