Section 10-056 Extraordinary School
Program and Fee Schedule
In accordance with KSA 72-8238, an
extraordinary school program shall be established to operate an all-day
Kindergarten program. The criteria for attendance in the program shall be
established by district/building administration. Fees shall be collected for
students participating in the program to cover operational costs of the program.
Any student who is eligible for free or reduced price meals under the provisions
of the national school lunch act shall have fees assessed at a free/reduced rate
established annually. Assessed fees shall be collected in April for the fall
semester of the following school term and in October for the spring semester of
the school term. Semester payment at the assessed rate is expected at the time
of enrollment. Refunds shall be applied according to BOE Policy 10-012. Assessed
fees will not be refunded if the student is withdrawn from the program without
just cause (i.e., move verified by request of records from transferring school).
Any student who is required to attend all-day Kindergarten or attends in
accordance with an individualized special education plan shall not be assessed
fees. A fund shall be established to collect fees and record expenditures
attributed to the program. The all-day Kindergarten program is an extension of
the mandated half-day Kindergarten program and extends before/after regular
school hours. It shall be established for the following purposes: (a) to provide
students with additional time to achieve learner exit or improvement outcomes;
(b) to provide students with remedial instruction; (c) to provide students an
opportunity to strengthen or attain mastery of basic or higher order thinking
skills; and (d) for special projects or activities to enrich the educational
experience of students.
