The
Board of Education shall approve the hiring of all employees. No employment is
official until the contract or other
document is signed by the candidate and approved by the Board. The hiring
sequence shall include:
- Conditional
offer of employment to the candidate;
- Acceptance
by the candidate;
- Contract
or other appropriate document sent to the candidate and candidate’s
acceptance signified by a signed document returned to the superintendent;
and
- Approval
of the contract or other documents by the board.
Hiring
guidelines also include the following:
- All
district employees performing job functions which require the employee to
maintain a commercial driver’s license shall be tested for alcohol and/or
drugs as required by current federal law. The testing program is established
by the Director of Transportation in coordination with the Assistant
Superintendent/Superintendent.
- Each
new employee shall be informed that compliance with the required elements of
the alcohol/drug testing program is a condition of employment as a driver in
the district.
- Each
prospective new employee shall be informed that if a background check
revealed a conviction of a crime committed against a person, or a drug
offence as specified in (drug free policy), no offer of employment would be
extended, and any current employment would be immediately terminated.
- The
district reserves the right to require a drug/alcohol test of any employee
if the administration has a reasonable belief the employee may be under the
influence of alcohol or other controlled substance. Such a test may include
a breath or blood test which shall be at district expense. Refusal to submit
to such a test shall be grounds for immediate termination of employment.
- The
district reserves the right to conduct a background check, including
driver’s license, criminal history, or otherwise, and in accordance with
the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), if appropriate, at any time the
administration has reasonable belief an employee may have been convicted of
a crime against a person, or a drug related offense.
- Any
employee operating a school vehicle must have a valid
Kansas
driver’s license.
