TECHNOLOGY-Business Technology

Course Description
Student swill learn how to operate the various office machine; calculators, computers, and transcribing machines.  Filing procedures are also emphasized.  Other topics studied include the virtual office, work place ethics, information processing, office communications, desktop publishing, how to use presentation software and records management.

Pre-requisite:  Offered to grades 11 and 12.  Students must have attained a passing grade in Computer Concepts.

Course length:   95 hours-one class period per day for one semester.  One-half credit.

Course Outcomes:

1.                  The student will learn how to format text to enhance the appearance of a word processing document.

2.                  The student will learn how to format pages in a word processing document.

3.                  Students will work with special word processing tools.

4.                  Students will learn how to create and format tables of various sizes.

5.                  Students will learn how to merge, sort and extract data.

6.                  Students will work with various graphic objects.

7.                  Students will sort data and work with multiple pages.

8.                  Students will learn how to perform financial functions such as keeping a petty cash fund and preparing bank documents.

9.                  Students will produce desktop publishing documents using special software designed for such purposes.

10.              Students will learn how to operate a transcribing machine using correct keyboarding technique.

11.              Students will understand the role of the office in the 21st century.

12.              Students will learn written, verbal, and telecommunication skills to communicate effectively on the job.

13.              Students will learn records management rules and procedures.
