TECHNOLOGY-Desktop Publishing
Course Description
Desktop Publishing is a one-half credit course that will let students gain an
understanding of DTP using various software packages available to create simple
and complex printed materials in a format that is attractive and meets the
desired needs of the creator.
95 hours (1 class period per day for one semester)
1. Students will become familiar with the operation of a PC, including various DOS commands, Windows 98 and mouse operation along with various hardware devices used in desktop publishing.
2. Students will be able to operate software packages including Microsoft Office 2002, Adobe PageMaker 7.0, QuarkXPress6, and scanning software.
3. Students will be able to understand design concepts used in DTP.
4. Students will be able to create letterheads, letters, and envelopes with graphics and attractive design.
5. Students will be able to create various sizes of cards with appropriate graphics and design.
6. Students will be able to create newsletters/newspapers in appropriate formats.
7. Students will be able to use graphics in presentations.
8. Students will be able to understand and use text formatting options.
9. Students will be able to use “creative arts” in the design of their presentations.
10. Students will be able to create graphics and charts to be incorporated into their DTP publications.
11. Students will be able to use scanning devices and the Internet to obtain graphics for use in their documents.
12. Students will be able to create a major DTP project using resources inside and outside the classroom.
