TECHNOLOGY-Inhouse Training
Course
Description
This course is designed to simulate a business environment so that students
will experience the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that accompany working in a
business setting. This course is
conducted on the school premises, in the business lab, during regular school
hours. Application of the skills
learned in other business courses will be the basis for which the student will
work. A minimum of 50% of the
work/class experience will be on live, production work obtained from the
community. A maximum of 50% of the
work/class experience can be on live, production work obtained from within the
school district.
Pre-requisites for this course are successful completion of
2 other business courses and instructor approval.
Course Length
190 hours (one 51 minute class per day for 36 weeks)
Course Outcomes
- The student will apply communication skills to gather,
analyze, and present data.
- The student will learn time management skills,
including the scheduling of appointments.
- The student will demonstrate proper work behavior
attitudes.
- The student will learn how important it is to attend
daily/promptly.
- The student will gain a sense of accomplishment by
completing various jobs/tas ks.
- The student will obtain important human relations
skills.
- The student will gain problem solving and
decision-making skills.
- The student will create working relationships with
other student(s) at the school.
- The student will gain employability skills that will
be vital when entering the workforce.
- The
student will create working relationships with community members and/or
local business people.
- The
student will apply previously learned technology, e.g. spreadsheets,
databases, letter composition, brochures, newsletters, and/or other business
skills from other courses towards real-life situations.
- The
student will apply their knowledge of the internet by using e-mail and
creating web pages.
Course Content
Content will vary based on community and school needs.
This class will act as a non-profit company, offering services to school,
small businesses, and people in the community.
These services that could be provided include:
e.g. web pages, menus, brochures, e-mail assistance, programs, business
cards, resume help, and any other reasonable requests.
