2007-2008 School Year Is Winding Down

By Traci Becker, MMS Principal

Parents can already feel it at home:

Visits to the Snow Cone stand,

                  Staying out a little longer,

Stay in bed a little longer,

                  “Homework, what homework?”

Summer break is just around the corner!  Your child’s teachers are feeling it too.  Getting that last bit of homework assignments completed, encouraging the final touches of the research project, study hard for finals.  The teachers are trying their best to keep students focused, keep them doing their best and have students finish well.

I would like to thank you parents for entrusting your children with us this school year.  I would also like to thank you for the positive support you have offered this year.  I hope your middle schooler had a rewarding experience with all of the changes we have set into place for MMS students this year.  We have seen increased test scores, less failing grades, and positive interactions amongst the students

MMS is again offering Summer Academy for students who need some extra reinforcement or practice.  If you would like to see your child have an opportunity to continue practicing basic skills in Reading and Math over the summer, we are still accepting applications.  If you have any questions, please contact me at the MMS office.

End of the Year Reward Party May 23rd

Students must meet 4 out the 5 criteria in order to attend the end of the year reward party.  Criteria are as follows (& found in student agendas):

ü       Still on their Green or Blue Conduct Card

ü       No In School or Out of School Suspensions

ü       Attendance at school 90% or higher

ü       2.0 GPA or higher

ü       Students had to do their best on State Assessments (Teacher evaluation)

A Few Reminders:

Dress Code:  Warm weather is here.    Please refer to the dress code section in the student agenda.  On occasion there have been some short shorts (3“in-seam), tops that are very low cut for our girls; and large sleeve holes on shirts for the boys.  Students are not permitted to write on themselves.  Consequences for students have ranged from receiving marks on their conduct cards to a change in clothing.  Students who have been dealt with repeatedly may have to have a parent bring a change of clothes. Your help is appreciated.

Meal accounts: Meal cards are important for students who choose to eat breakfast and/or lunch at school.  If a student forgets their card, they are to receive a pink slip (only 3 lunch meals per month; sack lunch on the 4th time). After May 15th students must maintain a positive balance in their account.  If they are negative, they will receive a sack lunch (which is also a charge), If you have any questions about your student’s account, please call the office any time.  If there is any negative balance after May 23rd, grade cards will be held.

Obligations:  Fines, overdue library books, and fees must be settled before grade cards are released.  Students owing Saturday School and detentions will have to owe some In School Suspension time and miss-out on class rewards and the Conduct Card Party.  Please help us help your child enjoy the last week of school by taking care of these obligations
