Daughters of the American Revolution Visit MGS!

For the past two years, MGS has had the pleasure of hosting a group of women who are members of the Daughters of the American Revolution or DAR. DAR was founded in 1890 and has more than 950,000 members. These women are proven descendants of a confirmed patriot of the American Revolutionary war. They are dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.

During their visit last year to the 5th graders here at MGS, the members of DAR spoke about the roles of women and children in the Revolutionary War. The DAR like to share stories of the women, children, and lesser-known soldiers of the American Revolution since they are rarely talked about in the history of the war. This year, the students were engaged in learning about the Constitution from women who are passionate about history. This visit from DAR was perfect timing since September 17th is Constitution Day, a day to celebrate the ratification of the U.S. Constitution. It is always fun to learn about America’s history from actual historians who even “dress” the part during their visit. The 5th graders are looking forward to another visit next semester when they are studying the American Revolution.
