Data, Charts, and Graphs

Vocabulary - Some words you will need to know.

Survey- information is collected by asking different people the same question and recording their answers

Bar Graph- uses bars to show data

Scale- consist of numbers that show the units used on a graph

Interval - is the amount between  each tick

Line graph- connects points to show how data changes over time

Trend- the pattern in the  data showing an increase or decrease

Stem-and-Leaf Plots- A display that shows data in order of place value

Circle Graph-  a graph in the shape of a circle that shows how a whole is broken into parts

What is it- What we think it means.

Brandon- I think graphs show data using intervals and numbers.

Trey- I think graphs show data  that helps us figure stuff out and learn. I also think they can report stuff to people and make things easier.

Morgan- I think graphs help me learn.

Kierra- I think the help me with some things.hs are circle graphs, bar graphs, Line graphs, Stem and leaf plots , and Venn diagram

Bar Graph -

Bar Graphs are graphs that are the most common graphs I think. They collect information that is collected on surveys. It has intervals to help people count how much or how many of something. It also has a scale that has a consist of numbers that also help us read the  graph.

Heres a problem that you can solve.

Mariah is collecting a pole for what is your favorite pet.

Bar Graph

How many votes does cat and dog have all together?

Circle Graph-

A circle graph is a graph shape of a circle that shows how the whole is broken into parts. They can show fractions using data such as favorite color or favorite type of music. Circle  graphs show fractions in the shape of circle and shows how it is broken into a whole.

Mr.Townsend is taking another pole this one is a circle graph. The pole is what is your favorite music is.

Stem and Leaf  Plots-

Stem and leaf plots show data using a display of the order place value. They can help us  show data. They help us by sorting information using place value. They help us they show us with 10s place on the left and the 1s place on the right.

Mr. Long is grading papers and he wants to find the highest score.

              Test Scores

What is the highest score?

Venn Diagram -

A diagram that uses circles to show the relationships between groups of data. Venn diagrams help us compare to items or numbers. They are also used in reading. They help us compare poles or votes. Like if you were going to take a vote What is your favorite subject?. You would be able to vote for two things or 3 things. On a regular graph you could only vote for one.

Here is a problem you can solve.

How many people voted?

Line Graph

A line connects points to show a change in data over time. It has a scale, intervals, trend , titles , and labels. They help us collect data over long ranges of time. A trend shows an increase or decrease over time. Intervals are the numbers on the side of a graph or chart. They help us with problems like to know how much the population increase or decrease.

Here is a problem that you can solve

What was the population in 2010?
