Welcome!
We provide Speech and Language services to Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade students. Our staff includes Jane Constance, ( master level) Kansas State Licensed Speech Language Pathologist), and Linda Julius, (two year associate education degree) Speech Language Paraprofessional.
With all our students, we provide a variety of activities that complement our curriculum. While working on their speech skills, our students participate in a variety of reading and writing activities. For example, this may include reading an article about Columbus, highlighting their speech sounds or vocabulary words, and utilizing maps, globes, color encoded question worksheets, dictionaries, and district vocabulary/geography software applications .

Our students work within individual or small groups. Within our groups, part of each session includes partner interactions (listening for good partner speech productions that include adequate volume, good speech sounds, good rate). Our students provide feedback for their partners. This activity helps develop listening and phonic awareness skills for their own speech production.

Our students utilize a reward system. If they work hard during their entire session, they receive one "x" on their speech time card. Upon completion of 10 sessions, they earn a small speech reward that they have selected. The students write their personal speech goals on their time card (it's important they know why they are in speech, and what are their individual goals). They record each session's digital date (i.e. 9/21/10), that matches their monthly paper calendar. The monthly calendars document school activities, personal information (pending trips, family birthdays), and national holidays. This activity provides meaningful vocabulary to build upon and enrich their language skills. It also provides functional calendar related speech words that will be emphasized throughout the month.
It is a pleasure to work with our students, and watch their daily growth. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me at the grade school.
