Abasolo's KCAT News Broadcasting students were fortunate enough to shadow the Hollywood production crew from Lock and Key Productions, who produce the ABC television show, Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
The students traveled to Joplin, MO after the devastating tornado hit the town on May 22, 2011. Extreme Makeover Home Edition built 7 houses in 7 days. The show typically only does one build per episode, but due to the devastation coinciding with the shows 200th episode they completed 7 brand new homes for 7 deserving families.
While on site, the students got to learn the basics of television production, shadow the camera crew on and off set, and get a first hand view of what most viewers and observers rarely get to see.
The students learned about a variety of broadcasting equipment while experiencing what it means to help rebuild a community.
Overall the opportunity to gain real life work experience and educational hands on knowledge was invaluable to the students and teacher.
