Welcome to Kindergarten!

by Amy Endres

Welcome to Kindergarten!

My name is Amy Endres, this is my fourth year to teach in Mulvane but my twelfth year teaching. I previously taught Kindergarten, First Grade, ESL and 6th grade (Spanish). I have my BA from WSU and 22 hours toward my Masters in Early Childhood Education.

I have been married for eleven years to a Mulvane native, Steve and we have two children Rhett, a fifth grader and Molli a third grader.  We have led a great life together full of wonderful experiences, having spent several years living in the south (2 years in Louisiana and 2 years in Alabama).  We are so excited to be back "home" and experience the family life Kansas has to offer.

We have a great year ahead of us full of fun and learning!  Please feel free to contact me for any reason via e-mail (aendres@usd263.k12.ks.us) or phone @ Munson (777-0151).

PLEASE make sure to check folders every nightJ. If you have any notes for me, lunch money etc. please make sure those items are in your child’s folder.  I do not always go through backpacks.

Our room can get a bit chilly at times so it would be a good idea for your child to bring a sweatshirt or jacket daily. Also, as we approach Fall our morning recess can be a bit chilly too.

About Our Classroom…..

  • Our school hours are 8:00-3:15. You can bring your child as early as     7:35 if he/she will be eating breakfast at school. If your child does not eat breakfast he/she may arrive as early as 7:50. Please bring your child to the gym; each teacher has an assigned place for our students to sit. We will walk out the front doors at the end of the day; you can pick-up your child from me out front. Our lunch time is 11:00-11:30; you are welcome to come eat lunch with your child at any time. If you plan on eating a lunch please send in a note or call ahead.

  • ALL visitors that come to school during school hours will need to ring the bell out front to be let in and then sign in at the office. Your child’s safety is very important to us!

  • TAKE HOME FOLDERS: Each night your child will bring home his/her folder.  School notes, completed papers, homework and teacher-parent communication forms will be in the folder.  There is also a Monthly calendar attached, each day your child will “dot” his/her behavior color on the calendar. Please sign or initial the behavior dot each day.

  • HOMEWORK: I will send homework once or twice a week.  Homework is not required but highly encouraged. Each time a homework sheet is returned your child will earn a homework star on his/her “homework sheet”.  Once the homework sheet is full your child will choose from our treasure chest. Homework should not take more than 10-15 minutes. I will notate homework with a X____________ for you to sign.
  • CURRICULUM:  We use Scott Foresman Reading and Math, McGraw Hill Social Studies, Pathways Phonemic Awareness, Four Square Writing, Zaner-Bloser Handwriting, and Foss Science.
  • SPECIALS: We have Library on Monday with Mrs. White. We have Art with Mrs. Kraft on Thursday (you may want to consider this when dressing your child), we have P.E with Mrs. Williams on Wednesday and Thursday (please make sure your child wears tennis shoes those days), and we have Music with Mr. Dean on Tuesday and Friday.
  • SNACKS:  Please send snacks at the beginning of the month, enough for approx. 18-20 students. Large boxes of pretzels, cookies or cereal are suggestions.
  • PACK LEADER(Star Student): Each week we will have a “Pack Leader”. I will send a form on Friday letting you know next week is your child’s turn to be “Pack Leader”. Please send 4-5 pictures of your child at various stages of life and complete the “Pack leader” form. We will share these pictures on Mondays and post them on our class “Pack Leader” bulletin board. The pictures will come home the following Monday.
  • BIRTHDAY TREATS: Each child may bring in special treats on their birthday. Just let me know ahead of time the day you want to celebrate.  I will pass out party invitations ONLY if there is enough for every child in the class.
  • VOLUNTEERS: I love to have help in the classroom. If you are interested just let me know.
