Mrs. Jodie Copeland-Baker, Assistant Director of Special Education
A little about me:
I grew up in western Pennsylvania and graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania with my
Bachelors in Special Education in 1985. I have since earned two Master Degrees including one in
Educational Psychology from the Wichita State University and, later, one in Building Leadership from
Baker University. I came to the Mulvane School District after working in a variety of capacities in the
field of special education. Previous job titles include special education teacher, Community-Based
Instruction Coordinator, Behavior Analyst, Instructional Coach, Special Education Coordinator, and most
recently, Assistant Director of Special Education. I have been blessed to work with students with
disabilities for a total of 38 years. This will be my 17th year with the Mulvane School District. I am proud to be
a part of a special education department that employs a team of highly qualified professional educators
and support personnel that work together to make our school district a great place for all students to
work and learn each day!
A little about my family:
My husband retired as a Master Sergeant after being employed as an aircraft mechanic for 35 years for
the Kansas Air National Guard. He is currently the owner of an appliance repair business that continues
to keep him very busy. We have a blended family with two adult children. Markie lives in Oklahoma with
her husband Brian. They have six children! Our son, Caleb, 24, is employed as a Robotics and Automation Programmer at the National Institute for Aviation Research in Wichita. He is recently married to his wife Catherine (Cat), who works in the robotics department at the same site. We are very proud of them both! Rick and I try to
find more time for travel as we are now “empty nesters”.
