Cold Weather Recesses & School Closing Procedure

Cold Weather Recesses

It is the policy of Mulvane Grade School that during cold weather the decision for outside recess will be based on the weather; details such as wind chill, snow, rain, cloud cover, wind, etc. will determine whether or not it will be beneficial for the children to go outside. Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately.

School Closing Procedures

The Superintendent will be aware of and consider any adjustments to the schedule as early as possible.

The Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Director of Transportation will drive designated routes between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m. when needed. Superintendents and Transportation directors will also be consulted as appropriate regarding school closings in the area.

The Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Director of Transportation will confer about road/weather conditions and the forecast.

The Superintendent will make a decision between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. and begin calling parents and staff via "School Messenger" if a late start or school closing is warranted. Maintenance staff will begin clearing sidewalks and parking as soon as is feasible.

Student and staff safety will always serve as the premise for decisions made regarding the closing of school.

In the event of a late start, no breakfast will be provided and morning K/ECH will not be in session. Special Education routes will also not be run. Students attending Tri-City Day School will follow the schedule of the Haysville school district.

Building Principals will provide direction on decisions regarding tardies and attendance when weather conditions are changing or extreme.

Any school closing or schedule alteration will be broadcast on Channel 3, KSNW; Channel 10, KAKE; Channel 12, KWCH, as well as radio stations KFDI, 101.3 FM; KZSN, 102.1 FM; and KEYN, 103.7 FM. as soon as possible.
