Mulvane School District

USD263-Mission Statement

It is the mission of USD #263 and the community we serve to prepare its students to function in an ever-changing society in the 21st century. Together, we will work to provide our young people the opportunities, resources, encouragement, and instruction to develop communication, technical thinking, and academic skills as well as appreciation for the humanities. We expect our combined efforts to result in citizens who serve their community, individuals who are capable of learning for a lifetime, and people who are able to develop integrity and to find personal fulfillment.

STATEMENT OF BELIEFS

  1. Learning is a life-long process.
  2. All students can learn.
  3. The education process is a team effort: teachers, students, parents, and community.
  4. Good communication skills are essential for all.
  5. Students' self-esteem can and should be enhanced.
  6. All students should develop self-discipline and responsibility.
  7. A positive environment promotes a positive attitude toward school and toward learning.
  8. Students should have opportunities to learn how to solve their problems and make decisions.
  9. Parents, guardians and educators must set high standards for all students.
  10. The primary responsibility for learning rests with students.
  11. Parents and teachers share the responsibility for developing self-motivated and self-disciplined learners.
  12. Public education must ensure the opportunity to excel is provided to all students.
  13. Students' positive talents should be recognized and encouraged.
  14. Our joint commitment is to teach our children the skills needed to be productive adults.
  15. We must teach children to set and achieve goals.

Students will demonstrate the ability to access and use information.
Students will have the skills needed to adapt to a changing technological society.
Students will have the skills necessary to communicate effectively.
Students will demonstrate effective problem-solving skills necessary to be self directed learners.
Students will understand their rights and responsibilities as citizens.
Students will use leadership and group skills to manage interpersonal relationships within diverse settings.
Students will demonstrate academic skills in reading, comprehension, language arts, math, science and social studies.
Students will have knowledge and skills essential to live a healthy and productive life.
Students will demonstrate knowledge of and appreciation for the arts.
